Celebrate Halloween Safely

We all enjoy getting dressed up and visiting neighbors for candy. However, Halloween does impose some fire safety risks to your home during the spooky month. We want to ensure that you and your family celebrate safely and don't miss out on the custom traditions.

Each year, it is estimated 9,200 fires were reported to 911 in the US over the 3-day period around Halloween. These fires caused an estimated annual average of 25 deaths, 100 injuries, and over $117 Million in property loss. Majority of the Halloween fires was due to outside fires followed by residential fires inside the home with candles. Statistics from the National Fire Administration showed that fires peaked from 6-7pm, which are perfect times to display those carved pumpkins.

We encourage your families to carve pumpkins and cook holiday treats, however remember to practice fire safety. Consider safer lighting methods of flashlights, glow sticks, or battery-operated candles. Reminder to keep decorations away from open flames, light bulbs, and heaters. For all the Trick-or-Treaters in the township, make sure to only go up to home with lights on indicating candy being handed out. Also, run all the loot from the night past Mom and Dad. Do not eat anything opened or not sealed.
