Happy National Library Week! National Library Week is celebrated April 4-10th. With all the technology at our disposal these days, our library at the station has become a little dusty. However, it is filled with firefighting and emergency medical reference material used to educate new members and provide clarity to problems we have faced in the field. Just like youth and older members of community who attend school and high learning institutions, first responders have to attend classes that are required for us respond to emergencies. Majority of the classes still require books and reference materials of which are still all held and presented in a classroom and lab sessions. Many people don't know, first responders have their own library with books and reference material specialized in Firefighting, Emergency Management, Hazardous Materials, Emergency Medicine, and all other hazard subjects located at the National Emergency Training Center (NETC) in Emmitsburg, MD.. Having a collection of more than 208,000 books, reports, audiovisual materials and indexed articles, the library supports the National Fire Academy and Emergency Management Institute who both provide learning opportunities to first responder students and faculty research via classroom lectures and online developmental course materials. With all the resources at our disposal, members and community partners can fulfill their reading desires on interesting subjects to assist our community.
