Summer is certainly here and bringing some intense heat to Loyalsock Township. We all enjoy being outside with family and friends, especially around the picnic tables, pools, and campfires. Each bring their own safety risks and concerns. On average there are just over 8,000 grill related fires across the nation, caused by either misuse of gas connections, or improper maintenance to outdoor cooking equipment. Just because it is convenient, does not always mean it is safe, it is recommended to keep outdoor cooking equipment away from your home and children play areas. We would all hate to see one of our neighbors join the 140 outdoor cooking related injuries averaged around the country.

Staying cool is enjoyable and fun at the same time. Unfortunately, we are not able to assist in filling your pool, however you can obtain water meter and loaned hose from the Williamsport Municipal Water Authority. If you are interested in this pool filling option, please call the Williamsport Municipal Water Authority at (570) 323-6148. Remember to watch out for our younger swimmers and ensure they wear the proper sized life vest while out on the lake or river. For more information on the most appropriate size of life jacket, please visit United States Coast Guard. While participating in outdoor sports, please take time to hydrate and drink plenty of water. If needed, please seek out the shady areas to cool down as well. For more summer heat safety tips, please review the CDC recommended tips here.

Campfires are great way to kick back and unwind from long warm days. Singing and roasting smores are fun ways to spend time with family and friends, however, please keep child under supervision. Did you know that the Township has a burning ordinance? Just so there are no unexpected disruptions to your campfire activities, like a fire truck showing up, please take time to familiarize yourself with Loyalsock Township Burning Ordinance 320. Copy of the burning ordinance can be obtained from the Township Code Office.

In closing, from all of us, we wish you all a happy, fun, and safe summer. As always, if you are walking by the station and the doors are up, stop in and look around. Crews are happy to show off the apparatus and share some fire prevention tips with you.
